Fatip Grande with Lord Racer (2)
Cella
Nonno's old boar brush
Re-lather and cold rinse.

3 pass BBS. Went with as much Italian stuff as possible to honour my Dad as we had his funeral today. Not an easy day...

Nonno's old brush from the 60s/ 70s seemed particularly fitting. It is a very soft brush but I remain amazed at the lather it produces from very little pressure. It's the best brush I have despite being a doughnut with all its middle bristles having broken.
My condolences @RazorPlay, so mote it be :angelic:

Razor: Rockwell #4 with heavy handle
Blade: Spoiler
Brush: Maggard synth
Soap: Washpool - Lanolin
Post: Shaving Station - Keffir Lime ASB

Nice shave today. I generally use the Rockwell #3 plate with PolSilvers but the Spoiler blade requires a higher setting. I just don't get the fascination with vintage blades. I've tried a bunch and the only one that I really liked was GBE but even the revered Spoiler is just average. I mean, I got a DFS+ but by the afternoon, I could see a darker shadow than the PolSilver.
I don't have a stash of vintage blades so it doesn't matter but thought I'd share my experience. I must say though, the life of the Spoiler is good. It's still shaving well after 5 uses.

The Washpool is damn awesome soap! Not sure why this soap hasn't gotten more love. It's just the perfect shaving soap formula with performance and skincare that is top-tier!!

Your experience with the Progress seem to similar to mine. Although it may be a razor capable of giving a good close shave. I find it aggressive even on low settings and badly behaved, always sticking out its elbows and biting for no good reason. I have heard some people have had problems with blade alignment, though I don't think that is my problem. Mine now lives at the back of the cupboard in the naughty corner. I have many razors I would rather use

This is great reading when I've just accepted an offer of a trade for one.

Pre: Valobra Glicerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Tony Forsyth P&C LE 2017 Platypus
Soap: B&M Rhapsody
Razor: ATT H2
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (1)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion
EdC: B&M Cologne Russe

No shaving for a few days after being out bush. What better opportunity to pull out the heavy artillery and have my first crack with the ATT H2 plate. Most guides I have read say that this set-up is second only to the Muhle R41 for aggressiveness. I loaded up with my go-to modern blade, the Polsilver super Iridium, and took the plunge.
I should preface my comments by saying that I concentrated quite hard during the shave, as I did not want to spill too much claret.
Well, what a surprise! Whilst the blade feel was obvious, the shave was very smooth and oh-so efficient. I was done after two passes - 1 WTG and 1 XTG.
I did a very brief clean up. Man - was it a close shave! When I do a final clean-up, I always have a few spots that are a bit irregular and need a quick buff to finish off. Nearly all these spots were completely smooth and needed no further touch-up.
No nicks or weepers - a real surprise.
The acid test for me will be how my skin holds up to repeated shaves with the more aggressive plate, but I am mightily impressed with my first outing.
Oh - and the B&M Rhapsody matches beautifully with its stablemate Cologne Russe.

Does anyone else use their soap puck like a shave stick?
Hi @Maxime D. - I do this with my puck of Haslinger Schafsmilch. I have one puck grated into a grundtal tin for normal use, and when I travel or need a quick shave, I have another puck which I use like a stick. Because it is a small, hard puck, it works great, as it has a larger surface area than a stick, but is small enough to still be quite maneuverable.

Brush: Omega Synthetic Hi-Brush
Soap: Proraso Green
Razor: Merkur Progress
Blade: Derby Extra (3)
Lotion: Omega Alum Stick / Mennen Skin Bracer / Nivea Post Shave Balm / Pinaud Clubman Talc

It was day 3 of my attempt to calm the irascible Progress. At its lowest setting (-.5), it behaved well. The razor's head is by far the thickest of the Merkur line, and I believe this results in the necessity of holding the razor at a relatively shallow angle. Mantic59 (a Progress advocate) recommends doing so due to the extreme bending of the blade. Unmentioned is an issue with blade alignment, very much like that of my FaTip Gold "Gentle".

The Progress has been a project. Though I have other DE razors, I haven't wanted to give up on it (having already done so once) as I appreciate its design and functionality. For me, the Progress is also of good size and heft. So, we will soldier on with a new Derby.

Many people seem to get on perfectly well with the Progress (@todras for example) and I would accept the possibility that it is poor technique and concentration on my part that cause my problems. The angle of the blade, due to the way it's torqued for adjustability surely stiffens the blade and gives a good angle for a close shave but may well play a part in my failings. I hope you get on well with yours, as a straights man the angle and concentration may well come naturally for you.
