The Fougere Bastard Shave
20170116_103257.jpg

Razor: Gillette Slim (4 lips/chin & 8 rest)
Blade: Shark Super Stainless (1)
Soap: Shaver Heaven Forbidden Forest
Brush: Semogue 830
Bowl: Greenpike Special
Aftershave: Pino Silvestre
Cologne: Pino Silvestre

Thoughts
- I'm so excited to try my first Shaver Heaven soap courtesy of @Mark1966. I just missed out on this artisan house with it closing down just I was starting up wet shaving. I think I discovered the FB account a few days after the website went down! I'm usually a fan of fougere and this is smokey, woody, gentle and lovely - as I close my eyes, I'm kneeling in the forest, picking up polished stones near a creek bed. The soap enjoys water and lathers easily with great cushion and glide - as I suspected it would. Next time I'd use a preshave on my lip and chin but I wanted the full impact of the scent for the first time.
- I'm having lunch today with a friend who says they hate Pino Silvestre and bought me Old Spice as a joke when they heard I was wetshaving. So the choice was easy today; I'm a pine man bastard.

My first ever "Cold" shave!! With no prep whatsoever! Surprised to say the least!

"Another Cut Above"

@Cris cold water shave is FANTASTIC and is feels great onto the skin, and the best about cold water shave is you don't get razor burn too soon when shaving with warm water.

Boring Airport hotel shave, so definitely no need for a picture... really really hope I can make the next one work though ;)

Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Savile Row 3824 Silvertip Badger
Soap: Le Père Lucien Traditional
Razor: ATT Kronos open comb M2
Blade: Vintage Personna 74 (1)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion
EDT: Penhaligon Endymion

After chatting this evening with @borked and @Mark1966 about vintage blades and in particular special ones that we can sometimes covet, I was inspired to load up my first ever Personna 74.
Got the lather spot on this evening - the Savile Row brush seemed to work really well with the LPL. First pass - whoa! Very mild blade feel, but boy did it scythe through my whiskers. At the end of the first pass, I was closer than normal, and had taken the top off two small moles I didn't know I had! I am aware that the Personna 74 is highly respected for its longevity and smoothness, but the sharpness took me by surprise. I would say the sharpest blade I have used to date.
I ran through the second pass with far more respect and very light pressure. The M2 is the mildest ATT open comb plate, but I was happy to finish out at DFS+ after two passes. Very happy with the shave, and now that I have a little of the measure of the blade, am really looking forward to the next time out.

One of my all time favourite soaps, not seen it in stock for ages so not sure if its discontinued or not........ been going easy on it after the bottom started shining through so i don't run out; new full tub sourced private so can finally treat myself again :). Great shave (y)

Blade: Personna 'Lab Blue' (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'The Duke'
Soap/Cream: Martin de Candre Shaving Soap
Post-shave: APR Boise de Santal de Verviene Aftershave Splash

'cause life is too short for Proraso Menthol and Eucalyptus alone ...

In a homage to my missing the MdC I decided to break mine out this morning - to discover that I can see the bottom of the container! I will have to use slowly and carefully now, maybe I should have used my butterscotch Wee Scot to make the full homage complete.

The APR performed wonderfully as usual, although the scent is a little like ARKO! should smell  it is a little too lemon for my liking would be my first impression. I'll see how it mellows on future use (y)

More than a little envious of @TomG and his Personna74s ...

Saponifico Varesino Stella Alpina Soap
Saponifico Varesino Stella Alpina Balm
Australian Private Reserve L'endroit Orange Aftershave

Another superb lather from the Stella Alpina and a fragrance that is perfect for summer, the bathroom filling with Lemon Myrtle, Basil, Bergamot Cypress and Amber. If you have not tried it yet, I urge you to do so with @shavetheman carrying ample stocks of this and the other fine soaps in the SV range. Lathering is really effortless, even for those that struggle with artisan soaps. Cushion and glide are excellent with this soap but it is the post-shave feel that really excels, a very nourishing and moisturising soap that really stands apart.

A nice leisurely two pass today, a refreshing cool rinse then on with the balm and my own Orange place whose notes complemented the SV soap superbly even if I do say so myself, the herbaceous citrus notes worked particularly well with both fragrances enduring strongly 2 hours post shave and a face feel that is just fantastic.

Shave well and haveabloodygoodun :)

Wow. ARKO...now there's a comparison I have waited all my life for :D

By Lemon I am guessing you mean the particularly expensive, sort after Lemon Verbena oil that forms the accord....

Finally back in Melbourne and had my first straight shave in 3 and a half weeks. I clearly need a shave or two to get my touch back as I gave myself a little nick. Other than that it's nice to be back and have choices. My travel kit was pretty great (Muhle STFV2, La Toja, Slim, GSB, Speick,) but it was a pleasure to get back into badger and straights again. The M&F brush is truly special, with easily the best looking knot I've seen, and I spent a good while building an excellent Stirling lather. Happy shaves one and all.

I did say 'what ARKO! should smell like' - :)

Yes, the lemon would be the particularly expensive, sort after Lemon Verbena oil, now what is that verse coming to mind at this point, Matthew 7:6 I think ...
