Feather Artist Club DX non-folding with Pro blade (15)
Mr Taylor's TOBS Cream
Omega 80266
No A/S or balm - just re-lather while I put things away - then cold rinse
Two pass WTG CCS today. While I don't usually like creams, this one is more than passable.
I notice when these blades are on their last legs, going WTG they just don't shave as closely anymore, although it's a very safe shave - actually hard to cut yourself! It's deceiving as there is no real tugging to speak of - if I try ATG, that's when I can start feeling some tugging. I suspect this is how some people get a ridiculous number of shaves per blade with these - if you're going WTG and don't need a super close shave I believe the blades will go for quite a long time. I'm finding 15 shaves is about my limit though. Not really looking forward to the next three shaves on a new blade - that's when the blade is "too sharp", although I didn't think that was possible. A lot of concentration required to avoid damage, which is OK unless I have the flu like I did when I started on this blade!
My experimenting over the last few months with post shave products has revealed:
- Alcohol based splashes dry and irritate my skin although I'm a long way from trying all of them. Not happy with them.
- Using balms (Nivea / Bulldog etc) leads to an unwanted breakout of zits with this razor for some reason. Not acceptable although I will try this again in colder weather. Same result with Vit E oil.
- So now I am just re-lathering at the end of a shave, letting it sit on my face while I put everything away and doing a cold rinse. The lathers I'm using generally have good skin conditioning properties and if there is any blood I find this the fastest method to close it up - better than styptic / alum anyway. No irritation and no zits - my skin has never felt better although it's hard to get out of the head space of applying product. Will keep going with this to see if there are any long term impacts...
