No A/S or balm - just re-lather while I put things away - then cold rinse

Two pass WTG CCS today. While I don't usually like creams, this one is more than passable.

I notice when these blades are on their last legs, going WTG they just don't shave as closely anymore, although it's a very safe shave - actually hard to cut yourself! It's deceiving as there is no real tugging to speak of - if I try ATG, that's when I can start feeling some tugging. I suspect this is how some people get a ridiculous number of shaves per blade with these - if you're going WTG and don't need a super close shave I believe the blades will go for quite a long time. I'm finding 15 shaves is about my limit though. Not really looking forward to the next three shaves on a new blade - that's when the blade is "too sharp", although I didn't think that was possible. A lot of concentration required to avoid damage, which is OK unless I have the flu like I did when I started on this blade!

My experimenting over the last few months with post shave products has revealed:
- Alcohol based splashes dry and irritate my skin although I'm a long way from trying all of them. Not happy with them.
- Using balms (Nivea / Bulldog etc) leads to an unwanted breakout of zits with this razor for some reason. Not acceptable although I will try this again in colder weather. Same result with Vit E oil.
- So now I am just re-lathering at the end of a shave, letting it sit on my face while I put everything away and doing a cold rinse. The lathers I'm using generally have good skin conditioning properties and if there is any blood I find this the fastest method to close it up - better than styptic / alum anyway. No irritation and no zits - my skin has never felt better although it's hard to get out of the head space of applying product. Will keep going with this to see if there are any long term impacts...

Soap and post: B&M Latha Figgy Puddin
Razor: PAA Prismatic head on feather handle
Brush: Paladin PK47

Some people think I don't like B&M soaps but that is not true. I might not be a fanboy but I have to admit he makes some great scents. This one is a home run for me.

Inspired by @nsavage today. I really enjoy the scent on this soap, and it performs really well.
I get a far nicer lather off the puck from this soap than I do with the "Fat", but the post shave feel is not as good for me.
Luckily I have the aftershave which quickly sorts out any face feel issues, just need a really vigorous shaking!
Anyway, hope all you Melbournian's are enjoying the far more comfortable weather today! Shave well fella's!
Great shave @Normie interesting to hear that you had the same thoughts as me regarding the SV70 soap!

Aftershave: Carven Vetiver Dry

- My first try with B&M was great in terms of performance. Outstanding lather, cushion, glide AND slickness. I now have a new best soap experience and am going to purchase A LOT of it. Funnily enough to my untrained snozzhole - Roam smells exactly like Perkins Paste! I'm sure many of us will remember this amazing pink pot of gluey happiness from Primary School. It was uncanny - one minute I'm lathering in a rush and next thing it's 1980 and I'm doing craft in Mrs Sinclair's Year 1 class with grass stains on my knees. Exactly how Perkins Paste was related to the rugged cowboy motif on Roam's final release label is somewhat mysterious to me. I suspect that a considerable amount of closet decoupage was going down after the beans had been eaten and the last song sang. Plus you could always eat Perkins Paste if supplies ran low.
- My lip and chin were so gloriously obedient today - no need for balm. Just wonderful. I'm going to try a razor setting of 7 all over tomorrow and damn the consequences.
- @Mark1966 's Vetiver Dry is the monster of an aftershave I guessed it would be. Vetiver is the business. Man business. Refined business. But manly business. I'm such a fan of this scent.

TOTALLY with you on this one. Thankfully, the alcohol sits happily on my skin.

Razor: Gillette Slim (4+8 combo)
Blade: Shark SS (2)
Brush: Semogue 830
Soap: Razorock Tuscan Oud
Aftershave: Dr Jon's Classic Aftershave Tonic (new product for me)
Cologne: Dunhill Edition (not pictured)
Bowl: Greenpike Special

Thoughts:
- I've got lots of deliveries atm (second hand mostly) and so I decided that one new product a shave is probably the safest way to see what I like best. I was on the verge of christening the B&M Roam but when I first sniffed Dr Jon's and its rosemary goodness I knew what soap in my kit would pair best. I've also read some negatives about RR recently so thought I might offer a humble counter-argument with this bravely scented soap. I've called Tuscan Oud the "Catholic Mass" before but after today's smooth BBS shave paired with Dr Jon... I'm wearing black and walking around like a mofo exorcist - "the power of Christ compels you"! Dunhill Edition rounds everything out with some tobacco but I forgot to put the bottle in the shot.
- Oh, and today is the first BBS on my chin & lips! I can feel the skin start to surrender to its daily kiss of stainless steel. Also first time with no balm on the area and only aftershave because my oily skin is starting to over-moisten and I didn't need any help.
There seems to be a few RR Haters out there ! I don't think they are bad for their price point.

Ahhh ...Perkins Paste...now there's something I havent thought of in a while . Do they still make it or has it all gone glue sticks nowadays?? Always smelled much better than its market rival "Clag".
I think Perkins Paste was an Almond scent - Cella reminds me of PP also.
Thanks for the memories @Greenpike :):)

First run with the APR soap today and what a stellar performer!

Firstly the scent straight out of the tub is quite smokey. Not sure what the reason is or which ingredient is causing it (untrained nose sorry). Quite a bitter smokey scent and quite different to the splash. I'm no chemist but can only guess that the composition of the oils changes slightly when added to soap and effects the scents that you can initially pick up. During the shave this went away and the true qualities of this complex and brilliant scent shone through. Such a delight to the senses and definitely matched the splash.

The soap base utilised is Washpool Farms Unscented which also contains Lanolin (not included in their other two scented shave soaps last time I checked). I thought the performance of the non lanolin soap was great but this formula is considerably better again. I got a great lather from the soap. I found that the lather built up reasonably quickly and whilst I was able to add a reasonable amount of water it was evident that it would not accept as much as Mike's or Mystic Waters for example. Still the soap provided a nice protective lather which did an excellent job throughout the shave. The only negative for me is I did feel that it could be a little slicker but I am being picky here.

The splash contains a lot of high quality pure essential oils and a little goes a long way. I also find that the scent lasts a good long time which is definitely a plus with such a wonderful offering.

Keep up the good work @todras. I really cannot believe that this project is still in it's infancy stage to some extent. The products that you are producing are absolutely amazing!

That lather looks amazing. Will be keen to see if the other TTFC you have lathers the same. They apparently do a take of JPG Le Male called "Male" funnily enough. I know Charky has it at his store, however not sure if it's exclusive (as it appears to be at TTFC store as well but no splash as an option). Might have to send Maggards an email :)

Brought back plenty of high school memories for me also @Snooze and @Greenpike. One of the lads in my class had the surname Perkins, unfortunately for him. Schoolboy humour and all that - the poor soul is probably still scarred.

Eufros GEA Shaving Soap
Eufros GEA Balm

Australian Private Reserve Le Courrier

Another day, another superb lather from the Eufros. The modern Fougère notes of the vanilla and mint accord of the GEA come through even though the soap uses Fragrance oil for some of the main notes, it works and it works very well with the addition of the Mint for the top and essential component of the scent.

The last and final iteration of 'le cour'rier'' after many test iterations were sent for testing prior to finalising the scent, it was a complex fragrance where a whole lot of work was needed. I went with a fairly strong fragrance to ensure it really lasts and after applying it I am very glad I did. My scent is very close to the soap but due to the strength there are some minor differences that were essential to ensure longevity and adequate silage (how far away the scent can be detected). It was a lot of work when I look back at my composition notes, but it is a fragrance I am exceptionally happy with and will keep on the APR lineup permanently, even more so as I am wearing it now and the scent is still strong a couple of hours after application.

I may even run with a soap for this fragrance, if and only if the perfume base translates to the tallow well as mine is a pure EO composition. Time will tell...

Two wonderful passes with the timeless and a thorough clean off with warm and then cold water, I always ensure I remove all the soap from my face as my skin type dislikes traces of tallow and so on, I also like a clean slate before applying my balm and aftershave. Thursday already after a fairly busy start to the year, looking forward to the weekend already.

Haveabloodygoodday :)

Wow. I'll have to get some Cella too then. Yeah, PP closed down. The longer life and ease of use of the sticks like UHU won out. But how cool was a glue based on potato starch? Maybe it needs to come back like wetshaving??

That is the two different types of Cedarwood interacting with the tallow, they render their own tallow for Washpool farm so I suspect it has some trace elements as part of the process. The first time I picked up the scent myself I was concerned if I could use the soap at all, however as you say once you wake the oils as part of the lathering process the smell dissipates and you get the full suite of the Alfredus Choice. I got the same thing to a lesser degree with the General Ledger Soap too.

It's a lot like @alfredus himself I suspect, taciturn and reserved up front until you get to know him and warm him up a bit :p
