Second and third shaves (WTG/ATG/ATG) with this razor and I have to say it is a revelation. The range of angles able to be used is quite extraordinary - almost like a straight. A steep angle can be used WTG for DFS in one pass and then a shallow one can be used ATG. The result from yesterday's shave was 100% BBS with a glossy finish and no damage or irritation whatsoever. Today it was DFS+ with a couple of weepers. I suspect this blade isn't at its best for long (particularly when using a steep angle) so will try again with a fresh blade to see if I can repeat yesterday's experience, which was as good as my Feather at its best with a Pro Super blade. At the price, it doesn't really matter if these blades only really work well for one shave, as long as it's a great one!

I wanted to give the GFT another go with a proper load and build in the tub - the results were a lot better in all regards than my last try although I still wish for a bit more slickness and a bit less scent (but I'm like that...). The Monsavon was a step below (thin lather that didn't really build well) but it appears to have dried out in the tub (not well sealed) from the previous owner after being open for awhile - I may have had to load for longer as a result. I suspect I also need to re-hydrate it to give it a fair chance. Scent was fresh, mild and interesting - reminiscent of baby powder but in a good way.

Pre: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: Savile Row 3824 Silvertip Badger
Cream: Lea
Razor: ATT Kronos open comb M2
Blade: Vintage Personna 74 (13)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Splash: Barrister Reserve Cool
EDT: Penhaligon Castile

13 was not an unlucky number for the '74. The tungsten steel blade continues to provide excellent performance.
A steamy day in Perth today, due to cyclone season. Hence, menthol was on my mind. I was expected the Lea cream to be good, but Wow! Top class performance, and a nice menthol hit, which I found to be a touch stronger than the soap; about Arctic Mango strength by my gauge. The cream had very good residual slickness, which has been lacking in most creams I have tried.
The post shave feel was stellar. I have sensitive skin, and when I've finished my shave, even if has been a good one and there is no irritation, my face typically tells me that it has just had a blade scraped across its surface, and the post-shave routine is welcome. When the planets align on a shave, My face feels so good that I sometimes forget the post shave, and tonight was one of these. I still whacked on the gear, with the Barrister Cool splash very refreshing.
Feeling great, I decided to also apply some EDT - Penhaligon Castile. A fresh citrus opening, with some complex floral middle notes on a gentle base of musk and woods.
That shave made me feel like the King of the World!

Pre: Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Wolfwhiskers Envy White Supreme
Soap: Mike's Orange, black pepper and Cedar wood
Razor: iKon Slant
Blade: GSB
Post: alum, witch hazel, TSW After Balm, Stirling Bay Rum

Fantastic shave! Fantastic soap, brush, razor and blade combo. Finished off with a fantastic Bay rum.

Mastro Livi CarboInox, 6/8 Full Hollow, Barber's Notch

CarboInox time! This Sunday I wanted to use my very first Mastro Livi CarboInox razor which made me think about the beauty of this straight razor, both the blade and scales. The blade reminds me of the sea - blue like water, golden like a beach - and the two color cocobolo scales with its light-dark pattern is a perfect match to the blade. I also wanted to use two of the products I recently bought in my last trip in the Netherland: De Vergulde Hand Extra Fris shaving soap and Mennen Blue aftershave. It is now a very long time I use De Vergulde Hand soap and I have always wanted to try the "Extra Fris" version, a soap that seems to be harder to get and less popular than the "classic-yellow" one. It is not so bad, although I expected it to really be "extra fris" like they said. The Mennen Blue aftershave proved to be a good lotion and I like its "classic" fragrance quite a lot.
  • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
  • Soap: De Vergulde Hand Extra Fris
  • Brush: Mastro Livi Best Badger, Black African Ebony Handle, 24mm Knot
  • Bowl: Gerby Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Medium Loom Strop "Coramella Italiana" and Hand Palm
  • Razor: Mastro Livi CarboInox, 6/8 Full Hollow, Barber's Notch
  • Post-Shave: Alum Block
  • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
  • After Shave: Mennen Blue

Razor: Wilkinson Sword 'Sticky'
Blade: Personna 'Lab Blue' (1)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: APR les généraux du grand livre - shaving soap
Post-shave: APR les généraux du grand livre - aftershave splash

Final shave this morning before heading to the US. No brainer on choice of products (skipped the EDP as I didn't want to be that highly perfumed passenger who triggers somebody's allergies!).

Long day in lounges before a 3pm flight to DFW then layover there and on to MCO. My itinerary was planned around getting last minute work done in the comfort of the SYD lounge but since my son is coming with me I might be less productive!

Can't promise @alfredus style glamour overseas SOTD pics, hotel rooms are hotel rooms, but I can tell you now I will be looking forward to that next shave!

A bout of stifling humidity has descended on Sydney necessitating the help of one D. R. Harris and their bright citrus remedy by way of the Colonia citrus Arlington. I enjoy using a good shaving cream particularly the glycerin based creams with their superior lather and need for more hydration than usual. Many people find creams drying, in most cases it is due to lack of experience working with British shaving creams that due to the humectant qualities of glycerin require much more water when building the lather.

A lovely two passes, the fragrance of Arlington is one of my commercial favourites and reminds me closely of Lemon Party, albeit in a aroma chemical way. A thorough cold drenching after the shave then on with D.R.'s balm, aftershave and some of my own EDP with the musk and citrus of the Lemon Party really complimenting Arlington very well.

Have a great day you glorious bastards :)

If you get caught up in Trump's immigration madness (the airports there look absolutely chaotic) do give me a shout, I have a friends in the US at the bar who will no doubt get you released under Schedule 3 of the International Wet-Shavers (RAZOR) Act (2017) Provisions :p

Have a great trip too, I will keep the Acquisitions thread refreshed in your absence :)

PantaRei offer a massive bang for your buck, and Alesandro is a pleasure to deal with (y). I'd get rid of both my Simpson and my Brad Sears Manchurians before the PantaRei, and it costs ⅓ of the price if not less. I'm sure you'll love it.

I've been eyeing them off all year but I can't decide what design I want!!

I've got friends at the bar too, but they're usually too pissed to help*.

(*heard it before I don't doubt...still funny though)

Miserable looking day today. Pissing down with rain and cool for a change. Came home from training like a drowned rat so something deep and moody was on the books. Mrs came in for a chat and declared "I don't like that one" to which I replied grinning "That's a shame". I do quite like it.

DR Harris Eucalyptus Cream
Re-lather and cold rinse

Another 3 pass (WTG/ATG/ATG) BBS shave today with a few weepers. My face may need a rest from all these BBS shaves... I believe shaving with the Feather AC has been great training for an open comb DE. I will get hold of a blade sampler methinks as I know nothing about DE blades. Might need to try some Polsilvers by the sound of things!

The DR Harris cream was good but it's a consistency which makes it tricky to build lather in the tub or know how much you have loaded - I thought I added a lot of water but it didn't really thicken up so I suspect I may need more product. Will try again - it's just like Proraso Green really but with a more authentic Eucalyptus scent and maybe a bit lighter on the menthol. Hard pressed to say it's any better than Proraso Green but it deserves another run before I draw any conclusions... although I note the post shave feel is superior.

Nice!

I Coloniali soap
Vie Long 12705 Horsehair brush
Kee 80 shavette with new Permasharp
Chatillon Lux "Delor de Treget" toner

Wonderful cedar/ fresh sawdust scent and lather from the I Coloniali soap - one of my favourites, despite the small clay container that I always worry about dropping with bad results!

The Vie Long Horsehair was finally ready after almost two weeks of daily lathers - the horsehair barnyard aroma has finally lifted (or maybe Im just used to it!!). There was no shedding and the brush was quite soft with less backbone than a boar - I would say almost resembling the large TSW Synth in terms of face feel. Used a bowl to whip up a reasonable lather - probably should have taken more time...but it was a Monday...
Usually I don't really have time for "experimental" shaves on Monday mornings, but I hadn't shaved over the weekend, so wanted to try the Kee "full DE blade" shavette with a few days growth.

I picked up this shavette in a lot with my Feather AC shavettes a while ago - it uses a full DE blade so no messing about with snapping a blade in half etc. The razor feels quite solid and comfortable to hold, with good weight distribution. On this first run, did a two pass shave with surprisingly good results - is a different "feel" to the Feather AC type blades, and the Feather blades are longer which takes a bit of getting used to. Learning curve is not as steep as have tried a few other shavettes before, but this is the first DE blade version I have used. Will post a review after a few more uses.

Cold water splash and small amount of CL "Delor" with a woody aroma which sits nicely with the I Coloniali...

Enjoy your day you disreputable scoundrels :sneaky:

Nice one, @Snooze - I'm with you on both the scent of the I Coloniali and the jar-dropping phobia.

Nice line up, @Sxot. It is also raining and cool in Perth, as a tropical low is spilling its guts on the Southwest. The scent profile of Leviathan sounds interesting. What are your thoughts?
