Ok, 2 things.

1) Cold Shower? in June? do you live on the sun?

2) Do tell of this melted Pears Bar soap.. this intrigues me.

Ok, 2 things.

1) Cold Shower? in June? do you live on the sun? Yes! it's good for my mental health, who has PTSD, shower in cold water all year around. Takes about a month to get used to cold showers, the best time to start is in Spring or Autumn.

2) Do tell of this melted Pears Bar soap.. this intrigues me. Yes! First cut up the Pears soap into pieces with a coffee-sized mug of your choice, and microwave for about 15 or 20 seconds, depending on the type of watt power model, and don't get it too hot!

AussieWednesday shave features WhispersFromTheWoods (Whispers) - “Hippie Blend”. Whispers shaving soaps are Vegetal based and the “Hippie Blend” scent is described as: “The Hippie Blend Shaving Soap with sandalwood fragrant oil and jasmine, ylang ylang and patchouli essential oils is spicy and sensual. Ylang Ylang has aphrodisiac qualities which can help release frustration and anger. Jasmine is very sensual and sexual. Finally Patchouli is grounding and can inspire love. As a result when they are combined they create a wonderful scent.” Whispers shaving soaps come in 120g jars for AU$25.00, which translates to 20.8 AU cents/gm a “Good” Bang-for-Buck value.

Shave Result: Used my standard half teaspoon scoop of soap to quickly produced a rich and creamy lather, I classify Whispers soap as a Tier 2 performer, so the lather had excellent properties. For me the scent smells like I just walked into a Asian or Indian discount store with the Sandalwood, Asian floral and Spicy aroma, scent strength 5/10. Overall a great DFS, with no irritations.

Same setup as my last shave as at home self isolating having contracted Covid. So far getting over it well but the wife is struggling with a persisting cough that's unlike her as she hardly ever gets sick. :doctor:

Stay Safe & Happy Shaves!
Be careful with those coughs and keep an eye on her, we got it and as my wife and mother inlaw found out if you have a cough for too long you can break ribs so call up the doc if she gets sore.

Gem of a shave

Pre-shave:- Shower
Brush:- Shavemac - 386 D01 24mm Fan
Soap:- Pré de Provence - No. 63
Razor:- British Made 1912 Gem
Blade:- Gem (1)
Aftershave Balm:- Pré de Provence - No. 63
1st shave with Gem SE and not as much of a cheese grater as I feared.
Did palm strop the blade a few times before loading and watched some videos recommending lay the razor flat using the cap as a guide
Overall experience was good 2 x WTG Fine Shave not a DFS but good enough. Blade is stiffer than expected.
Razor angle takes a bit of getting used to and not agile under the nose but otherwise pleasantly surprised and will happily use for the week and keep in rotation

Interesting to hear how you went with the vintage GEM. One question, why did you feel it necessary to palm-strop the blade?

Read the blades have a thick coating and can drag on first couple of passes and wanted my first experience to be a good one (y)

OK... I hadn't thought to do that, but my experience with the GEM blade in the Sabre has been great from the get-go. I'm tempted to say it's even a Vector-killer, which is praise from someone who for a long time was effectively "glued to" my Vector, as someone here observed a while back. :banghead: The Sabre seems to like a shallow blade angle too (ie riding the cap) which took me a while to get used to. I've read lots of comparisons of the AC Schick Proline with Polsilver for smoothness, but lately I've been finding the GEM even smoother than either.

I've been looking at Hippy Blend for a while as I like Whispers From The Woods soaps, so it's good to hear a scent description from someone other than a seller.

After 26 years in the Navy and spending a lot of time wandering the stores of South East Asia, I'll give this one a miss. Unfortunately for me, Sandalwood always remains me of Asian houses of ill repute :LOL::LOL:

Keep on enabling  starts searching for 2nd hand Sabre

Gents, I tried the Mitchells wool fat last night, what am I doing wrong?

It feels slick enough but it's very hard to get that thick bubbly lather I'm after, it feels like lathering up a hand soap.

is this normal?

with the Tabac, I was able to get a thick lather off the bat.
