Troy Tools Custom Brush Handles

Ooohhh, that one turned out nice! Mallee burl hybrid
24 - 26mm, depending on the knot.
The stabilized burl surface was coated with a chameleon Blue/Violet/Gold over a diamond dark blue resin.
I like how the blue resin mixture in the knot socket slumped into the glittered clear to form a more interesting shaped transition between the clear and the colours on top. Some of the glue plug is visible through a small clear window also. The glue plug can be coloured blue to lessen the visual contrast and continue the blue theme.

By the way, after nearly 7 months of waiting, my first batch of 15 Brown Mallee burl chunks are now stabilized and ready for making into custom burl/resin hybrid brushes, just like this one.

Hint. Watch in a Youtube browser window to see the HD version.

That's got to be one of the nicest handles you've made @TroyTools so congratulations!:love::love:

Ok cool, so I can make billet aluminium handles too.
Quickly knocked this one up today (all bloody day)
Left it a "machined finish". The industrial look. Not afraid of fingerprints.
Steel wool rub over tool marks. Doesn't remove them, but doesn't take a week to polish either!
Solid right through.
Lessons learned: It can be done!

Hi Troy, any chance you can anodise these? Possibly in green? I know I’m late to your fantastic work here, like @Razor Burn, I too had a brush buying sabbatical after @Tony Forsyth went north 😁
I think it’s time to expand my collection again. If I buy a few more I may get to ‘Fifty shades of Green’ 👍🏻🟢👍🏻

Hmmm, anodizing hey?:unsure::unsure::unsure:
I hadn't thought of that before.
Short answer right now is no, as it isn't something I've ever researched or tooled up to do before now.
That doesn't mean it's not an interesting idea though, just don't know right now how realistic and reliable the process would be in a home workshop.
Looks like I have some reading to do!:bookworm:
Thank you for the idea in this direction!(y)

A nice neon/fluro green anodised one would be perfect if you can make it work, @TroyTools
I’d definitely love to add one to my collection 💚💚
You have other greens too that I’m confident will make it into my shave den. Loving your work and the coin/medallion design is top notch 👍🏻👍🏻

My new brush, all materials salvaged from used bits and pieces laying around. Waste not, want not.
This one is for me. My personal shaving brush, (like I need more brushes???) and not for sale!
This is about as good as it will ever look, once the fingerprints, water, soap, usage (drop it on the floor) etc take their toll, it's not likely to look this pretty again.
No matter, they're for using, not looking at!

I think @Tony Forsyth is going to be completely jealous @TroyTools

Absolutely stunning.

What kind of timber? What’s the knot?

The burl is a pretty mystery, it came out a big box of various burls that I had laying around home. I have a feeling it is a leftover piece of Amboyna burl I bought a few years ago, but can't be sure. I've bought quite a lot of burl over the years and unfortunately I have lost track of the provenance on some of it.
The knot is out of my TF Customs handle formerly known as "Woodrot" that Tony Forsyth had gifted to me.
That one was a very ambitious handle build by Tony, but ultimately the knot socket cracked open and the knot fell out.
So a new handle I made for it. Beautiful knot back in action!

Very handsome and classy. (y) Are you going to keep that brass shiny, or let it oxidise naturally?
