Shave of the Day 2014

Soap. QCS fougere cream
Brush. Simo synth
Balm. QCS Iced Key Lime

Well got on a bit better with the cream. It's a fairly hard cream, I'd call it a croap. Actually as their soaps are on the softer side there's not a lot of difference.

The synth is still wanting to push lather around my face [emoji19] I tried less water and it still was too much. It's like the brush rejects face, water and lather. It's very soft though, a lot more springy than boar.

Iced key lime has a decent menthol hit! 20 minutes of eye watering face freeze awaits. Smells halfway between a butter menthol and vix vapor rub.

It's a soft light scent, the floral top notes are a bit lost in the earthy base. Actually when I close my eyes and sniff it I am reminded of the old imperial leather soap bars we had as kids... How's this compare to other fougeres? I reckon barrister & Mann would have a good one

Shaved with RR xxx this morning. My first time using it. Residual slickness on already-shaved areas wasn't great, but perhaps my lather wasn't great either.

The protection, however, was awesome. I have absolutely zero redness, irritation, burning, or anything like that. My face feels great. And a close shave too. What a start to the day!

Now off to a job interview... [emoji51]

Razor: ASD2
Blade: Gillette yellow
Brush: Shavemac 25 Silvertip 22/48
Cream: GF coconut

Two praises. One for the cream. This is an old favourite of mine. First cream I ever used on the recommendation of peach. Lovely natural scent, strong performance. The second is for my little shavemac. I really love this brush. Great flow, good backbone, soft tips and with use just keeps getting better. Handle is also very ergonomic in this knot size.

Best of luck with the job!

Vulfix boar badger
SIM cream - This tube is almost finished and very shortly I'll be able to finally enter something in the finished product sticky. I'll be fighting back tears of joy for the next couple of shaves.
Bullit tip with GEM SS on No 2

I swear there is no better result than with a GEM SS on it's second shave. It always feels and looks very agricultural and makes a lot of noise. Unlike my preference for a light DE razor this things feels like it weighs a tonne and it's not the heaviest SE I use either. Closest shave I've had for a long time.

Mark sent me his Weber.

First shave with a Feather, and proraso. Very heavy razor, I'm more for lighter and more maneuverable. This is hard to go easy on and I've got a little irritation. Nothing major, just aware I've shaved.

I'll try some other blades, but initial impression is I won't get along with a razor this hefty. The longer classic handle might be good for my 30C though, or I could play safer and get a 20C, which is the long handle version.

What's your low down on the vulfix mixed knot?

Brush: VS Synthetic
Soap/Cream: Speick
Razor: Progress
Blade: Voshkod [3]
After-shave: GFT Coral skin food

Managed to shave again whist away!
Home later today and back into my full shaving armoury. Been good to touch base with @stillshunter & @Mark1966 whilst in town.

Good on you filobiblic, sounds like you shed the love abroad in our fine Capitol too. Any advice on using the synth? Mines beating me still

I find the Muhle better than the Virginia Sheng. Both require a bit of 'mashing' in to the face. Seems aggressive but it's necessary. With the VS I churn the lather for a while before doing a final paint/slap.
The VS tends to require a stronger push to make it splay.
All the synths I have used have to be squeezed dry before working the lather- they need to have very little water.
Just waiting for the Plisson as that sounds to be more what I'm after- backbone but more softness.

Pre shave oil
Tobs shaver shop cream
Sim classic 1 synth
Webber r
Astra blade

Really good shave!! The pre shave oil smelt a bit like castor oil... I think jojoba is better.

Brush worked really well with the Tobs. This is the best synth I have used because of the short loft. I don't like the paint brush feeling of the others. Will it replace my badger brushes..... No, I love the badger feeling. Will it become a travel brush... It might just.. Although I have two awesome badger travel brushes already.

Really smooth good shave... Although webber is more aggressive than I really like. Single pass only needed tho so it was quick!

Nice brush. I've forgotten what model handle (2147?). It's basically boar with some pure badger mixed in. So it's got a serious back bone and the tiniest bit of pure badger scritch and badger lather production. . Best of both worlds. Fairly small. Excellent face latherer. One of the very few ready made brushes I've bought.

Great shave except for the brush, I knew there was a reason it's been in storage for 2 years.

The Weber is like that for most of us for the first few shaves. Work your angle and ease off the pressure. You'll get on better with it I reckon. Hey, I just fell for one of your faves - the Fatboy - and so we can't be that different mate. Persevere!
…oh yeah and spot on change the blade, maybe try a Personna Blue, Permasharp or the like….the Feathers never work well for me in the Weber.
